Locum Veterinary Investigation Officer Urgently Required for APHA Penrith, Cumbria. The role will be required to investigate animal diseases in farm and non-farm livestock by providing a diagnostic and investigative service to private veterinary surgeons and their clients. Veterinary surveillance, through the post-mortem examination of submissions and the use of diagnostic tests, to establish likely cause of death/ diagnosis where possible. The main requirement is the ability to confidently do post-mortem examinations in a laboratory setting, on livestock species and reporting the findings and results. This involves the triage of cases, detailed clinical history taking and communication with Private Veterinary Surgeons within the North West area (namely Cumbria, Lancashire and West Yorkshire). The role is completed from Penrith Veterinary Investigation Centre (VIC). Not field based. Farm animal experience preferrable, with an interest in pathology. Relevant experience and post-mortem skills would be beneficial. The start date will be the 6th January 2025 for approximately 5 months. The role is full time, Monday– Friday 8.30am – 5pm (4.30pm finish on a Friday. Applicants will have to have Official Controls Qualification (Veterinary) – Essential Skills.
